Department of Chemistry and Bioengineering

We offer courses and research related to basic specialized subjects, focusing on the following four fields: inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, and biotechnology.

Creation of useful materials, development of new energy systems, and understanding of life phenomena and their application are important challenges in the scientific infrastructure needed to ensure a safe and healthy life. To help tackle the challenges, we integrated chemistry and biotechnology to offer an education that has not been achieved by the conventional single subject-based approach, and to foster experts who are capable of solving research and development challenges related to human-friendly and environmentally friendly functional materials, chemical processes, and life form information. Specifically, the department provides education and research related to basic specialized subjects, focusing on the following four fields: inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, and biotechnology.

Physical Chemistry

Based on a basic knowledge of physical chemistry, quantum chemistry, chemical reaction engineering, and separation engineering, we offer courses and research related to synthesis of useful materials and substances, function control, and mechanical analysis.

Biotechnology

Based on a basic knowledge of biology, life science, and molecular cell biology, we offer courses related to useful material production, biotechnology towards the utilization of stem cells, and physical bioinformatics, which is related to life information.

Inorganic Chemistry

Based on a basic knowledge of inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, surface chemistry, electrochemistry, and environmental chemistry, we offer courses and research related to environmentally friendly functional inorganic materials and energy conversion materials.

Organic Chemistry

Based on a basic knowledge of organic chemistry, organic reaction chemistry, macromolecular synthetic chemistry, and macromolecular material chemistry, we offer courses and research required for the development of chemical products, drugs and medicines, and electronic materials.
