Summary The purpose of my research is to detect intracranial vascular disease or cracks in reinforced concrete using an acoustic nondestructive testing method. In detecting a brain aneurysm, multiple sensors placed on the head are used to pick up vibrations to locate the position of the aneurysm, from which the vibration originates, with a beamforming technique. To detect cracks in reinforced concrete structure, multiple sensors are also used to pick up the vibrations reflected from a crack in a concrete structure by hitting it with an impulse hammer, and then locate the crack position also with a beamforming technique as shown in the figure on the right.
