Summary My research efforts are focused on the synthesis of biocompatible and environmentally friendly inorganic layered compounds using host-guest reaction and their application. Inorganic layered compounds (host) can be uptake in various kinds of ions and molecules (guest) on the nanoscale. Inorganic layered compounds therefore can be used to absorb, remove and immobilize hazardous substances from an aqueous solution, and they are applicable to use as environmental cleaning materials. Since these compounds can also incorporate organic molecules and ions, such as biomolecules, pharmaceuticals and UV absorbents etc., our research group tries to use them as materials for molecular containers, molecular carriers and drug delivery system.
