Summary My research interest focuses on developing better relationships between machines, such as robots, and humans, for which interaction between machines and humans is necessary in addition to human-to-human interaction. To achieve the objective, it is important to develop technology to help machines understand people (human sensing or HS), and to understand the boundary between machines and people (human interface or HI). My laboratory is engaged in basic research on computer vision using artificial intelligence and evolutionary computation, HS, and visual information processing; and applied research on HI, human tracking, and visual information processing systems for the autonomous mobile robots based on physiological and psychological findings.
