Summary The brain, the most complicated structure in the human body, derives from a sheet of cells in the embryo. Then what molecular mechanisms are involved in forming the exceedingly complicated structure of the brain from such a simple structure? My research is aimed at understanding this mechanism at the gene and protein level, mainly using chick embryos as a model system. This kind of basic research is considered important in understanding brain disorders and aging at the molecular level and in finding therapeutic protocols. I am concurrently engaged in developing genetic tools useful for analyzing gene functions.
