Summary Inorganic layered compounds (clay) are used in abundance for home appliances, automobiles, containers, paper manufacturing, building materials and other essentials for our living. In my laboratory, we combine or unite inorganic compounds, which are found in abundance on Earth, and organic compounds (such as polymers) to produce materials with functions that cannot be expressed by a single compound. We also study chemical materials to absorb and remove environmental pollutants and to collect valuable metals. Considering sustainability through the use of recyclable materials as raw materials instead of limited resources, our research and development activities are focused on chemical composite materials, which play an important role in maintaining the global environment.
