Summary The aging of large structures such as nuclear power plants, bridges and highways that have been used over many years has been a concern. Nondestructive evaluation techniques are essential to maintain these structures and prolong their lives. At the Non-Destructive Evaluation and Science Research Center, I propose indirect evaluation methods for the soundness of structures using correlations between material degradation and magnetism. My research efforts are mainly aimed at developing the necessary evaluation equipment suitable for each structure that will allow these methods to be applied onsite.
