Summary The objective of my research, which focuses on the distribution and structure of geological strata mainly in Iwate Prefecture, is to contribute to mitigating disasters caused by volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. More specifically, my efforts are directed at studying the volcanic history based on the Quaternary volcanic products and understanding the distribution of active faults and the characteristics of rock beds based on surveys on the Tertiary and Quaternary strata. Results of the research will allow us to develop disaster prevention measures that are effective in addressing the volcanic eruptions and earthquakes that are predicted. Through studying the earth (mainly rock and strata), my laboratory attempts to understand phenomena that occurred in the past and to predict the future so that we can make our society safer and more anxiety-free.
