Summary The aim of my research is to create urban space where people can live safely and comfortably. My research activities are grouped into three main themes: 1) creation of safe and comfortable urban space, for which I provide assistance to communities in preparing for disasters, making evacuation plans, and securing children’s safety on the way to and back from school; 2) creation of people-friendly communities, for which I assist in planning a barrier-free street network, develop a system to provide routing information to elderly and disabled people, and help ensure transportation services for daily activities in disadvantaged areas; and 3) designing of urban spaces, for which I study the long-term maintenance and management of urban transportation networks and urban landscape formation.
