Summary The major themes of my research are noise reduction, direction of arrival (DOA) estimation of a sound source , and time-scale modification of audio signals . Noise reduction and DOA estimation are important for mobile phones, robots and various other devices that employee speech input channel to control or to interact with . The processing method that I have recently developed only requires two microphones to estimate the two-dimensional direction (azimuth and elevation angle) to acquire the target sound with low distortion. Another relevant research project is the study of auditory processing models based on the principle of noise suppression. Time-scale modification of sound is a technology to change the reproduction speed of a sound without changing its quality, which is used for language learning and in hearing aids.
