Summary Tribology is the technology that deals with friction, wear and lubrication. This technology is indispensable not only for addressing environmental issues such as energy and resource saving but also in a wide range of applications, from joints of the body to the stable operation of space platform. To understand dynamic phenomena such as friction and wear, we need to know what actually occurs in the interface between rubbed surfaces by means of in-situ observation. My research is focused on analyzing and interpreting phenomena such as the degradations and reactions that occur on the friction surface using a friction tester combined with a surface analyzer.
