Summary My research interest lies in the mechanism of soil failure phenomena. Landslides and slope failures are typical examples of soil failures. An international joint research project on the genomic analysis of substances comprising soil (Geo-Genomics) will finally soon be launched. What behavior and properties does a mixture of three layers of soil particles (solid), water (liquid) and air (gas) have? This research will find the answers to this question gradually by using cutting-edge analytical instruments. It is expected that principles underlying innovative measurement and construction techniques that are totally different from conventional ones will be established.
