Summary Pressing is a method in which metal is pressed into a mold which forms it into various shapes. This method can be used efficiently for producing many parts. This method is well suited to mass production and is used widely in cutting-edge industries such as the auto parts and information equipment industries. In pressing, defective products do occur, although very rarely. In industries where high levels of reliability is required, particularly in the automobile industry, the requirement to address this problem is becoming stronger. In response, I have developed an acoustic emission (AE) method that can detect defects with high accuracy, and I am now testing it out.
