Summary The problems of the global warming and the depletion of the fossil fuel resource are very serious. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the engine performance of the automobile and the aircraft. Generally, the turbulent flame, which has a very complicated structure, is used for the engines. The local structure of this turbulent flame is regarded as an ensemble of laminar flamelets that have a curvature and are subject to stretching and contraction. Our research lab tries to clarify the combustion phenomenon of this element flame, and to get the whole picture of combustion process of the turbulent flame. In addition, we are developing the ultra-micro combustor to which this element flame is applied.
