Summary I am engaged in theoretical research to elucidate the properties of mesoscopic semiconductors and carbon nanotubes with the aim of predicting new phenomena. Since these systems are extremely minute, ranging from about one micron (a millionth of a meter) to one nanometer (a billionth of a meter), quantum mechanical effects play an important role. In addition, as electrons are frequently confined one- and two-dimensionally, they show properties unique to low-dimensional systems.
