Summary We are surrounded by light and see objects when illuminated by light in our daily life. Light is familiar to us, and plays an important role in transporting information on the three-dimensional (3-D) position and color of objects. My laboratory has invented a new computational imaging technique to retrieve simultaneously the 3-D position and color, i.e., the continuous spectrum in each position, of an object from the interference fringe patterns generated by a suitably designed interferometer. This technique is called the digital holographic 3-D imaging spectrometry and we are continuing our research to develop the technique for practical use.
